ARTP Training
ARTP no longer provide spirometry training therefore, you will need to find your own training prior to enrolling on our certificate of competence programme.
Much like a driving instructor and a driving examiner, ARTP are the examiners only and cannot provide you with the training/learning elements. You must be trained before you take your ARTP spirometry assessment exams.

Finding Spirometry Training
There are a number of training institutes and independent trainers who provide spirometry training. Once you have completed your training, you can return to the ARTP to then book your certificate of competence (assessment).
Whilst ARTP do not offer Spirometry training, we do however have a list (below) of training providers who have approached us and agreed to meet the requirements set out in sections 2 of the ARTP Spirometry Standards document.
Click here for a list of Spirometry Trainers
Please be aware that the ARTP do not endorse individual training providers listed in this directory. ARTP are not associated with any spirometry training.
It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure they choose an appropriate trainer to meet their training requirements.
Training for New Candidates
If you are new to spirometry or your training is more than 3 years old, it is highly recommended that you book onto a training course to ensure your practice is up to date. Training is provided by many organisations and whatever training you choose to undertake, you are still eligible to apply to undertake the ARTP certificate of competence (assessment) which leads to being on the National Register, after you have completed your training.
Training for Experienced Practitioners
If you are an experienced spirometry practitioner who needs to get onto the spirometry register, you may not need a training course. ARTP would recommend that you have received training within the last 3 years, and if you feel that you have sufficient experience, please proceed with booking your spirometry certificate of competence. However, if you fail the assessments you will have the recommendation to book onto an external training course before progressing and you will be charged a rebooking fee for the failed assessment.
